It produces ice infallibly, keeping the 1.8 lb storage bin topped off throughout the day. The ice that the Profile Opal maker creates is perfectly crunchy and infinitely chewable. cups full of nugget ice, I have to admit that I'm hooked. Not being much of a fast-food aficionado myself, I'll admit I didn't quite get the "Good Ice" hype. There's also Alexa and Google Home voice control but, honestly, it seems like overkill. As far as app functionality goes, it's fairly comprehensive for such a spec-purpose device. The app gives you insight into whether the machine needs to be cleaned, if it needs a new filter, and lets you control the illumination and set schedules to power down the machine. I got the Profile Opal hooked up to GE's SmartHQ app. But the included instructions did not prepare me for the struggle.Īfter I found a spot, got the water filter installed, and ran through a cleaning cycle (you need to flush the system three times before you can start making ice). Once the screen was out, installing the filter was a snap. In the end, I needed to jam a butter knife in the wee gap I was able to find, then pray I was levering the right piece out. Having to navigate by feel alone, the worry that I was about to break something on this very expensive ice maker was high (it's in there quite tight). The challenge is that this an all-black piece sitting at the bottom of a water reservoir that you 100% can not see into. I'm extremely grateful that GE included a filter in the box, but removing the mechanical screen proved to be a challenge that required a considerable amount of time Googling and scrubbing through videos. The next hurdle is getting the screen filter removed to install the included water filter. I never would have expected an ice maker to have swoopy architectural lines and an all-black, glossy, minimalist interface, but GE has exceeded expectations with the Profile Opal. Thankfully, the modern design fits in just about anywhere. And if you have under-cabinet lighting, you might be scrambling trying to find a place for it, as it's nearly 18 inches tall. It's also going to take up a considerable amount of space on your countertop. Good enough to make room for Anthony Karczįirst things first, make no mistake that the GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker Dispenser (man, I'm going to get tired of typing that) is an appliance. 5/6/2023 0 Comments Pixwords scenes desertThey were tearful young girls - like the virgins of Verdun, like those the poet had already sung of - unhappy and plaintive children led by the child-king, Louis XVII in a moaning choir - Louis XVII, who died of old age brought on by grief before he was twelve years old shattered destinies, the faded bloom of youth, misunderstood genius, misinterpreted and slandered virtues. Already the characters who were to play a part in this epic crowded the threshold of his imagination and knocked on the door of his poem. It was a monumental epic about the miseries of the century. He was meditating on the outline of a new work which would seal his fame forever and which he would sign opus exegi, like Horace. In an elegant cottage on the isle of Jersey, Victor Hugo was awake. From time to time in the hollows of the rocks and at the tops of the old ruins of feudal towers, the mournful cry of ospreys - which the fury of the elements prevented from seeking their prey - resounded and in the distance the howls of wolves answered in sinister harmony.Ĭommon people said that the night was terrible the poets will say it was a romantic night. The rain was falling in torrents, and the raging winds carried violent pelting gusts of water. One heard here and there strange clamors which broke the heart it was like the supreme cry of a crew in distress. A storm raged over the ocean, twisting the masts of ships like wisps of straw the waves roared, eager to seize their prey. Through breaks in the clouds, like wounds of a bruised sky, only a few pale rays of pallid, lugubrious moonlight were allowed to permeate. You knew Loki had had a difficult life, so discussing your relatively happy childhood seemed somehow cruel. Not that you didn't want to share, but you never knew how to move the conversations with him in that direction. The two of you would talk for hours about blades, but it never went beyond that. Discussing uses for different weapons, analysing fighting styles and comparing your favorites from each of your own personal collections. Helping you clean weapons or just sitting in your forge watching you work. On one hand it seemed Loki was equally drawn to you. He was beautiful and elegant, sharp and deadly. That's what drew you to Loki, he was everything you loved about blades made flesh. But it was never about violence, you just thought blades were beautiful and elegant. Your parents worried about you when the interest didn't fade as you got older. As a kid, everyone thought you were crazy for obsessing over blades. 5/6/2023 0 Comments Gulf breeze weatherSkies are set to stay mostly cloudy, but patches of clear skies will develop in the afternoon as highs struggle to get to the mid-60s. This pocket of low clouds and a bitter 15-20 mph sea breeze will result in morning temperatures in the low 50s from Bolinas Lagoon to Pacifica. Pacific Coast and Peninsula: Dense fog and mist will make for hazardous driving along Highway 1 Saturday morning. Skies should clear in time for some of the Blue Angels to be visible overhead. The 5-10 mph breeze is set to roll into downtown and will keep afternoon temperatures just under 70 degrees. Going east of Sutro Tower, some of the west side’s fog will pool into Mount Sutro and Twin Peaks before lifting to partly cloudy skies after 10 a.m. Look for a 10-15 mph breeze off Highway 1 that keeps daytime temperatures in the low 60s all afternoon. The fog will then slowly lift by 10 to 11 a.m., turning to partly cloudy skies just in time for Saturday’s fleet events. This will make for a cool start to the day, with morning temperatures just barely hovering at around 50-53 degrees. A quiet mist is on tap for the west side this Saturday morning as fog seeps into the Sunset and Outer Richmond districts. The good news is that in the battle between the PNA and ENSO, it looks like the wet pattern is taking the lead for next week. This is a complex weather forecast, but the main take-away is that there is still a slight chance for dry Diablo winds around Tuesday and Wednesday. If the low stays closer to land, these winds will trend drier and bring a round of Diablos. This means that a low over Mexico will be able to undercut the high and bring a chance for beneficial rains and snow showers in the Sierra Nevada.Īs for the Bay Area, it’s still looking like it may be a toss up between drizzles on the coast and peninsula and dry, northeast winds filtering into the North Bay mountains, East Bay hills and Santa Cruz Mountains. Gerry Díaz / Weatherbellįor now, the weather models are trending toward the high pressure off the coast centering over the Gulf of Alaska. The European weather model’s outlook for upper-level systems on Tuesday, with the ridge of high pressure (red) centered west of Washington and Oregon while a weak trough of low pressure (blue) sits over Southern California. This wobble is thanks to the competing forces of the Pacific North American (PNA) and La Niña oscillations, and models are still in a huff over what these oscillations will carve out for the Bay Area’s weather pattern next week. It also helps that the large-scale weather pattern has been quiet thanks to the wobbling of the ridge of high pressure to our west. It’s unusual to see this much fog in October, and it’s largely a byproduct of all that humid air left behind by September’s weather pattern evaporating out of the Bay Area’s valleys and passes. That’s from all the fog that’s consistently been rolling into the Bay Area for the past several days. And for a brief period at the tail-end of the month, it looked like drier air was going to make those moisture levels tank. The first big spike around the middle of September was thanks to all the rains that came through Northern California. Honing in on just the past four weeks, the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Diablo Range have both seen vegetation moisture levels that are near the average for this time of the year - which is welcome news. In terms of the Bay Area as a whole, October is a month when Red Flag Warnings tend to spike.īut recent weather events have really watered down the 2022 fire season. Oaklanders can still recall the historic firestorm that decimated neighborhoods in October 1991, which was driven by intense Diablo winds that roared into the Oakland and Berkeley hills. 5/6/2023 0 Comments Aurora hdr 2018 release dateUnlike most of the photographers who rely on HDR, I use this style of photography not so much for landscapes, cityscapes, architecture or interiors but for portraits, product shots and stills for use in videos often for use with the Ken Burns effect.įor portraits and product shots in particular, most often shot with a mixture of natural and artificial light and increasingly with rather challenging natural light conditions, the HDR plus Aurora HDR combo results in images where textures acquire a hyperrealism that enhances the feeling of actually being in front of that person or those objects. A much better rendition of how this scene looked and especially felt on the day. Previous image further edited in Skylum Luminar 2018 with a little Golden Hour, Foliage Enhancer, Micro-contrast and Vignette applied. Screenshots, Aurora HDR 2019 user interface There is a host of similar LUT collections available on the Web for free or very reasonable prices given their quality and if you are new to the world of LUTs I recommend searching and trying to see what LUTs can do with the benefit of Aurora HDR 2019’s new LUT Mapping tool. With the addition of Look Up Tables aka LUT support in Aurora HDR 2019 as previously occurred in Luminar, I suspect I will doing less of this detouring with the benefit of applying items from an extensive LUT collection acquired over many years shooting video.Ī number of those LUTs are derived from scans of classic, now often sadly discontinued, colour and monochrome movie film stocks and printing films or are based on feature film colour grading looks based on analog films, with one of the most recent such releases being Digital Film Stock aka DFS by LookLabs. My personal MO when processing HDR images is to do the fundamental HDR tone mapping and basic editing in Aurora then pass the image on to Luminar directly or oftentimes export as a TIFF file with a detour through DxO ViewPoint for powerful automatic optical corrections based on my raw files’ EXIF data and sometimes though DxO FilmPack or Alien Skin Exposure as well for each application’s excellent simulations for classic and quirky analog films and printing processes. Skylum’s modus operandi has been to create standalone versions of its software that can also operate as plug-ins to popular host applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Photoshop Elements, and more recently to each other with, for example, Aurora HDR 2019 being able to call on Luminar and Photolemur as well as a long list other popular Photoshop plug-ins. I suspect the AI integration in both will continue and look forward to seeing what will appear in Luminar 2019 in the coming months. The products of Photolemur’s AI advances started to find their way into Aurora HDR and Luminar a versions or two ago and, with Aurora HDR 2019’s software engine being radically updated to the brand new Quantum HDR Engine and with a number of AI and Smart features appearing in both flagship applications. One of those unconventional concepts involves features that appear to derive from a side project, Photolemur, described as “the world’s first fully automated photo enhance that makes all your images great automatically with the help of Artificial Intelligence”. Over the years since then the Skylum team has steadily improved Aurora as well all the rest of its software with concepts and features very different from what those usually found in more conventional image editing software made by more conventional image software companies. I have dipped my toes in and out of the high dynamic range aka HDR realm for some years at least since Adobe added HDR capability to Photoshop, trying a range of HDR software whether in the form of plug-ins or standalone applications, but none really caught my attention nor got me excited by the possibilities of this form of image creation and editing until Aurora first made its appearance. Skylum Aurora HDR 2019, with this version blessed with more smart enhancements than ever before as well as a good list of other new features and improvements. Right now it is Aurora HDR’s turn, about to be updated to Aurora HDR 2019, with discounts applying until October 4 2018, and the many new additions and improvements in this version make it an absolute must-have update in my humble opinion. Towards the end of each photography editing software maker Skylum, formerly Macphun, announces then releases the annual major update to its two multiple award-winning flagship products, Aurora HDR and Luminar, and both are made available at pre-order discount for a certain period from announcement to the actual release date. 5/5/2023 0 Comments Dreamboard appIt’s a lot easier to search online for a pile of cash to represent abundance and then print it out than it is to count on your magazine collection to contain that specific image. For this reason, it can be even more helpful and specific to use your old friend Google to pull up the exact image or word you want to see. Remember that it’s crucial for everything you select to appear on your vision board to be representative of what you DO WANT, not anything you don’t. The more specific you can be, the better! When you continue to give your attention to the things you want and you have a visualization of them, you attract those things into your life, and what once seemed like an “ideal life” can become your reality. So it makes sense then, that if you put your attention and focus your feelings on the images in your vision board (e.g., pictures of your dream trip) that the energy of that thing will more likely be in your awareness. It’s not that those cars were never there it’s simply that you never noticed them before. You know how when you get a new car, you see that particular make and model everywhere you go? That’s because you have put your attention on something specific, and are unconsciously scanning the world for items that match it. It can represent your vision for a particular area of your life (i.e., your career), or your whole life in general. What matters is that you manually create it (no one else can do it for you), and that it excites you when you see it. You can make one by hand-think old-school magazine cutouts on a bulletin board-or you can make one digitally, via a website like Pinterest. Quite literally, it is a tangible representation of the vision you have for yourself. A meal plan can also help you finish leftovers, because a refrigerator full of forgotten food wastes money. Now I create my shopping list after looking at what I already have in the kitchen. Many times, the loaves of bread spoiled before I could put them in the freezer, and the spices and condiments passed their expiration dates before we could use them. I didn’t check my pantry’s inventory before I went shopping, and I routinely picked up more bread, spices, and condiments at the store. Before I started planning my meals, I often opened a cupboard only to find three loaves of bread, two bottles of minced garlic, and an extra jar of mayonnaise. We now plan ahead and enjoy more home-cooked meals made with fresh foods. Before I planned our weekly menu, my husband and I ate a lot of frozen pizzas and packaged frozen skillet meals loaded with sodium, or we dined at restaurants. By planning three meals a day, seven days a week, you can avoid visiting the drive-thru in the morning, abstain from a lunch hour vending machine frenzy, and resist the temptation to order from a pricey take-out dinner menu. You can spend dinner time preparing and enjoying your meal, instead of standing in front of the refrigerator waiting for a dinner idea to magically pop into your head. When you plan your meals, you can efficiently shop for groceries using your list, and you only have to shop once a week. You have to spend about 30 minutes to plan a week’s worth of meals. You also save money by taking advantage of weekly sales to tailor your menu, avoiding duplicate purchases, and reducing the urge to order take-out. Armed with a plan and a list, you only need to make one trip to the store each week, thus eliminating the opportunities for impulse purchases. Using a meal plan saves you money and time, and you eat better, healthier foods when you plan your meals ahead of time. You can benefit from using a meal plan in a number of ways. Learn more about the benefits of meal planning and see some of the best tips and strategies below to help you get started. With about 30 minutes a week of time invested, I have saved myself money and time, and I’ve also saved my sanity. I started meal planning six years ago, and over that time I have reduced my family’s intake of processed foods, like frozen pizzas and Rice-a-Roni, and significantly cut our grocery bill. Meal planning involves creating a corresponding grocery list to successfully execute the meals in your plan. More importantly, your grocery spending becomes more manageable when you plan your meals. With careful planning and organization, you know ahead of time what to serve for dinner and what to defrost ahead of time, and you have all of the ingredients that you need on hand to make every meal. If your grocery spending has spiraled out of control, yet you often feel like you have “nothing” to eat, you can adapt meal planning to make every meal a success. 5/5/2023 0 Comments Telescope to see planetsThis shower is active from October 2 to November 7 so keep your eyes open for meteors all month.Ĭheck out October 21 for when and where to look.
